20141211 - INAUGURATION OF THE NEW GONDOLA LIFT IN FUNÄSDALEN
On Tuesday, the first gondola lift travelled up to the top of Funäsdalsberget.
During Christmas and the New Year, the village will be inviting visitors to the official inauguration with a major programme of gondola lift events over several days.
The construction of the gondola lift up Funäsdalsberget, which began in July last year, is one of a number of major investments in the Funäsfjällen area over recent years. The gondola lift will be a landmark for the entire Funäsfjällen area, and Funäsdalen will become the third ski resort in Scandinavia with a gondola lift.
"It's great that we have made so much progress and can open the gondola lift line as planned. The gondola lift and the new pistes connect the mountain and the village in a very positive way, transforming Funäsdalen into a real ski and activity resort, with the mountain, the lake and the river Ljusnan at its centre", says Jens Wilhelmson, MD at Funäsdalens Berg & Hotell.

Investments in and around the gondola lift line exceed 100 million kronor and follow on from major investments in Funäsfjällen over recent years. This has meant that Funäsfjällen is currently Scandinavia's largest skiing and snow scooter destination, both in terms of the number of pistes and cross-country, ski touring and snow scooter trails. And Funäsfjällen is also Sweden's biggest summer mountain destination in terms of the number of visitors.
"Investment in the Gondolbanan means that Funäsfjällen will become even more attractive to foreign visitors. We are already seeing increasing interest from tour operators in Europe who want to visit Funäsfjällen. Funäsdalen is only 75 km from the popular Norwegian tourist destination of Röros, which is easily accessible by air, rail and road from Oslo", says Jens Wilhelmson.
Funäsdalen's position guarantees snow, which means that the resort normally opens in October, and this together with the challenging slopes has made the resort well-known in the Alpine world. Many national teams and clubs train and compete in Funäsdalen and investments have been made in new pistes down to the village so that events and ski competitions can end there.
"Funäsfjällen continues to reinforce its position both in winter and summer with the Gondolbanan, because it creates a village with direct access to the high mountains. We have more than 60 peaks at around 1000 m, and the view from the top of Funäsdalsberget is stunning", says Jonas Kojan, MD at Destination Funäsfjällen.
